Mikhail Kogan, M.D.

Dr. Mikhail Kogan is an Interventional Pain Management Specialist with extended expertise in treating back pain and cancer pain. He currently is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine at Elmhurst Hospital Center. Dr. Kogan is board certified in anesthesiology and pain management.

After completing his anesthesiology residency at St. Vincent's Medical Center in NYC,  Dr. Kogan was fortunate to attend a pain management fellowship at the State University of New York in Buffalo, where he trained under two of the world’s most prominent specialists in pain management, Dr. Mark Lema and Dr. Oscar DeLeon. A significant part of his training was conducted at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

In 2000, Dr. Kogan was promoted to Director of Pain Management Service at Elmhurst Hospital. During the past six years, Dr. Kogan has developed pain management service into a premiere minimally invasive pain management practice with an emphasis on minimally invasive spinal techniques. Dr. Kogan continues to utilize the latest, most cutting edge spinal interventions including percutaneous disc decompressor, IDET, radio frequency neurolysis and spinal implantable devices.

While Dr. Kogan's education and certifications attest to his knowledge, it is his patients’ satisfaction that justify his recognition in this area. Dr. Kogan is known for achieving dramatic improvement in pain without major surgery. Dr. Kogan prides himself on being a compassionate, caring physician with an excellent bedside manner.

Dr. Kogan is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine.

Sekhar Upadhyayula, M.D.

After initial training in general surgery, a primary residency in Anesthesiology, and further specialization training in Pain Management at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center, Dr. Sekhar Upadhyayula was an assistant Clinical Professor in Anesthesiology and Pain Management.

He is double boarded in both anesthesiology and interventional pain management.

In 2000 he accepted the position of Director of Fellowship training for Pain Management at Saint Vincent’s Catholic Medical Centers in Manhattan and became the Medical Director for the Clinical Practice. He has trained many physicians who have gone on to both academic and private practice positions throughout the United States. He has experience in all modalities of Pain management, including Cancer Pain Management, and his passion Interventional Spine and minimally invasive modalities.

During his academic years he has served on numerous boards in the hospital and was responsible for getting JCAHO accreditation for the Pain Management Division. Dr. Sekhar Upadhyayula has served as a consultant to the New York Rangers.

During 9/11 he was the director of the Burn Unit and after patient hours he spent several weeks at Ground Zero with the core medical team, serving in capacities ranging from Search and Rescue, Medical Care, and cleanup. For his selfless service during this difficult time he was honored by the victim identification Dutt humanitarian society, receiving their highest honor in 2001.

As a member and faculty lecturer in several Societies, including the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, (ASIPP), the American Society of Anesthesiologists, (ASA), and the International Spinal Injection Society, (ISIS), and several others.

On a philanthropic note, Dr. Sekhar Upadhyayula spends several weeks per year in underdeveloped nations promoting health reform, serving in Free Care Clinics and promoting education through local physicians the art and science of Pain Management.

Now he is pleased to provide this level of expertise in private practice setting.
